  • In A Land Where Booze Flows Like Diamond Earrings

Nothing says party like keeping meticulous track of every drop of alcohol. Chain restaurants in Florida are testing a system that employs RFID hardware on bottles to track usage. The bottles estimate flow using angle and duration indicators and even adjust themselves over time to adapt to specific bartenders and bottle shapes. Every device pings in on the hour so the establishment knows exactly where the bottles are and how much of their booze is used. It uses the drink order software to match up the drinks being prepared to see if they're being poured light or heavy and if they're using the regimented ingredients. Now from a gadget freak's perspective this is damn cool; but I'm having a hard time quieting the drunkard inside me. That's the part that likes free drinks and wild times, and he's feeling suffocated at the prospect to come.
